Perhaps you have heard the expression “it is what it is”? What does that expression mean exactly?
Before I understood the deeper meaning of this expression, I envisioned an emaciated yogi guru in the lotus position floating above the floor imperiously imparting wisdom that would take scholars multiple lifetimes to interpret. Seeing as how this is my last life in the world and the lotus position would put me in traction, I knew that consulting the Course In Miracles would help me clarify its meaning.
What’s the IT that we are authoring here? According to the Course in Miracles, IT is truth, specifically God’s truth. Why is it crucial that you best a course in miracles podcast emphasize that it’s God’s truth? Because God’s the fact is not available to interpretations whereas a human’s truth is. Multiple versions of human truth have cause an array of religions. The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia defines religion as a “system of thought, feeling, and action that is shared by a group and that offers the members a subject of devotion.”
Who devised the machine of thought? On whose feelings are these thoughts based? Are actions really necessary? According to the Course In Miracles, God just is and our ultimate goal is to come back to a perfect state of being. There’s no thought or action in their state of being, you only are. What mustn’t be forgotten is the underlying thread of religions: God is creator, God is love and we’re all perfect and infinite children of God.
Put another way, “it is what it is” can be rewritten to “God’s love is the sole truth and it is absolute” and this truth knows no bounds and is timeless.
